Key question: why did you consider that creating a control at runtime would fix a bug in your code that is unrelated to how the control is created? The reason this probably works is that the SetFont(f); The system font is not a ClearType-capable font, so it wouldn't be influenced by the ClearType settings.

I just spent all day compiling stuff (really gdkfst), and then by accident copied the Xfstconfig file I had developed over to an untouched computer, and subpixel rendering started working on that too! I think it was my commemt "# subpixel" that did it. I really love this cleartype thing. But I hate antia-aliasing.

Double high-res (shown in the picture) was strange, but it still wasn't compatible with ClearType. I may be wrong, but that screen shot is actually just full-screen high-res (HGR2 in AppleSoft BASIC); the //e in question only had 64kb of RAM, so I don't think the bank-switching was available to DazzleDraw.

Unless I'm mistake, "ClearType" is a technology that has nothing to do with the text of the file, but rather with how the text is displayed (in otherwords, the text is not really altered in any way other than putting it in a format with MS Reader can view). ClearType takes advantage of sub-pixel rendering.
